Before you begin, make sure you have an installation buddy: It's next to impossible to install a medicine cabinet by yourself. Once you've gotten a helper, have him hold the cabinet exactly where you want it to be installed. Then, use a pencil to mark the outline of the top and bottom of the cabinet.
Pre-Drilled Holes
Fortunately, medicine cabinets come with holes that are pre-drilled, so once your installation partner is holding the cabinet in place, open the cabinet and mark with pencil the holes that will need to be drilled. Just stick your pencil through the holes and make a small mark for each hole.
Once you've made your markings, you'll now need to find wall studs that match. Because there are so many pre-drilled holes in the back of your bathroom medicine cabinet, you're sure to have marked more than one hole that matches up with a stud. Erase the marks that do not match up with a stud because you will not need them. Make sure you've marked at least one hole that will be drilled in each corner of the cabinet. This will ensure a secure fit to the wall.
If the marks that you have made for the pre-drilled holes do not match up with your wall's studs, you can choose to move the bathroom medicine cabinet, and re-trace the holes, or you can chose to drill your own holes in the back of the cabinet.
Once you're ready to drill, make sure you use wood screws - and don't tighten them fully. After you've done that, simply tighten the bolts and check to see that your bathroom medicine cabinet is level.
